ABOUT PRESERVATION KENTUCKY
Preservation Kentucky is the Commonwealth's statewide nonprofit historic preservation organization. We are a membership-based organization devoted to preserving buildings, structures, and sites in every region and every town in the state. Preservation Kentucky is committed to preserving vestiges of all Kentuckians' past - from shotgun houses in Louisville to African American rural communities across the state to roadside architecture, such as the Parkette Drive-In in Lexington, to important prehistoric archeological sites. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate.

History
Preservation Kentucky was formed in 1998 by the board of Commonwealth Preservation Advocates (CPA). As CPA was a lobbying group, it became clear that education and advocacy were not being adequately addressed. Preservation Kentucky was created to serve as the nonprofit voice for historic preservation with education and advocacy as the primary mission.

Preservation Kentucky is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization that relies on membership revenue, grants, and other donations for operating funds. Members include individuals, businesses, community organizations, and government agencies.

Advocacy
Our advocacy partners on the federal level include Preservation Action and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Both organizations offer up to date information regarding legislation on their websites which we share in newsletters and news alerts to our members.

Preservation Kentucky informs members of important preservation-related legislation both nationally, statewide, and locally. During General Assembly Sessions, Preservation Kentucky monitors legislation and provides an action plan to constituents wishing to support preservation friendly legislation. While we make every effort to monitor preservation-related legislation, we encourage you to inform us of important legislation of which we are unaware. (email to info@preservationkentucky.org) Information regarding legislation in Kentucky can be found on the internet at www.lrc.ky.gov This site can be used to search for bills and legislation already signed into law. The information is updated daily when the Kentucky General Assembly is in session.  For more information on legislative advocacy in Kentucky, please click here.
