Fort Thomas Avenue, "Home"

2009 Preservation Kentucky Photo Essay Contest, Preserving the Spirit of Home

First Place: Jenna Theisen -  High School :
“HOME”

Heading back to Fort Thomas, I drive along Fort Thomas Avenue.  I look at the blue summer sky and watch the children ride their bikes along the street.  I see people walking, conversing with old friends and laughing as they recall old memories of the town.  I look to the right and see the VA Hospital and the veterans sitting on the benches.  Then, I turn the bend and come upon the old, red-bricked building.  Memories flourish as I remember the many times I have entered the building; some with friends and some with my family.  I stop the car and watch as people park their cars.  Children anxiously jump out and start running across the street, parents calling after them.  I hear the music coming from the place and get out of the car.  As I enter the building I see the initials of Charles Riedlmatter.  I have finally found a piece of home at the Midway Café.
